HLD’s Jason Smith Brings Home the Gold with Winning Marcum Workplace Challenge T-shirt Design

8.4.2010 - Jason Smith of Springfield Gardens, Queens, Graphic Artist at Harrison Leifer DiMarco, was the winner of the 2010 Marcum Workplace Challenge T-shirt design contest. Jason’s design was featured on the shirts for the 3.5 mile fundraising run/walk on August 3 at Jones Beach, and was worn by all volunteers and participants.



The 2010 Marcum Workplace Challenge, Long Island’s largest participatory fundraising event, was open to employees of any company, non-profit organization, school or governmental agency and their families and friends. This was the 5th year that Marcum hosted the Workplace Challenge. Last year, over $26,000 was raised for charity. Proceeds from the 2010 event will be donated to the Children’s Medical Fund of New York and the Long Island Children’s Museum. This year, more than 200 companies, including HLD, and nearly 6,000 runners participated in the event.


My vision when creating the design was to incorporate the existing Marcum logo with a fun beach theme, considering the event was held at Jones Beach,” Smith said. He used Adobe Illustrator to design the T-shirt logo that will be posted on the Marcum Web site. This is Smith’s first design award as an employee of HLD, a full-service marketing and public relations agency in Rockville Centre, NY. His design was one of five entered and was chosen for his use of color, incorporation of the Marcum logo and best overall aesthetics. Smith received a Marcum plaque at the awards ceremony following the race in front of all participants and volunteers.


Gina DiMarco, Account Coordinator at HLD and agency team captain for the Marcum run/walk, suggested to Smith that he enter the T-shirt design contest for the Workplace Challenge. “It is so rewarding to be able to contribute both our athletic talent and our creative talent to the Marcum Workplace Challenge and even more gratifying that Jason’s winning design was worn by all participants,” said DiMarco. “We were all very excited to support the cause and sport Jason’s creative logo.”
